The CARBURETOR is a fuel system component responsible for mixing air and fuel in the correct ratio for combustion by drawing fuel from the float chamber using the venturi effect of air flowing through the throttle bore, supplying a combustible mixture directly to the intake manifold. The fuel system must maintain the correct delivery pressure and volume at all engine operating conditions while preventing leaks of flammable fuel vapour into the engine bay.
Fuel system components in this category are manufactured to OEM-equivalent pressure ratings, flow specifications, and material compatibility requirements for petrol, diesel, ethanol-blend, and AdBlue applications as specified on the individual product page.
Fuel system work must be performed with the system depressurised and away from any ignition sources. Always follow local safety regulations for working with flammable fuels and hazardous fluids.
- Depressurise the fuel system before disconnecting any fuel line. Remove the fuel pump fuse or relay, start the engine, and allow it to stall. Crank the engine once more to release residual pressure.
- Work in a well-ventilated area away from all ignition sources. Do not smoke or allow any open flame or spark near fuel system components.
- Place absorbent rags under all fuel connections before disconnecting. Even a depressurised system will retain residual fuel in lines and components.
- Replace all fuel line O-rings and seals whenever a fuel connection is disturbed. Fuel-resistant O-rings are single-use items.
- Inspect the fuel filter screen and strainer if accessible when replacing a fuel pump — a blocked strainer is often the cause of pump failure.
- After reassembly, cycle the ignition on and off three times without cranking to allow the pump to pressurise the system before starting the engine. Check for leaks before starting.
