The FLYWHEEL is a drivetrain component responsible for transmitting, selecting, or controlling rotational power within the drivetrain system between the engine and the driven wheels. Transmission and driveline components operate under continuous high torque and thermal load conditions and must maintain precise dimensional tolerances to ensure efficient power transfer without noise, vibration, or harshness (NVH).
Components in this category are manufactured to OEM-equivalent standards for material hardness, surface finish, and geometric accuracy. They are supplied as direct replacement parts compatible with OEM-specified gear oils and lubricants.
Transmission components are application-specific — always verify the gearbox type (manual, automatic, DCT, CVT), ratio, and output configuration before ordering. Incorrect parts installed in a transmission will cause immediate or rapid failure.
- Drain the transmission oil before disassembly and send a sample for oil analysis if available — this can identify the nature of internal wear before the gearbox is opened.
- Follow the OEM-specified disassembly sequence for the transmission type. Automatic transmissions require specialist tooling for clutch pack compression and solenoid removal.
- Measure all shims, selective thrust washers, and preload settings before removal and record values for reassembly. Many transmission components use selective shims to achieve precise bearing preload and gear mesh.
- Replace all seals, O-rings, and the transmission filter as part of any internal transmission repair — these items are low-cost relative to the total labour and should not be reused.
- Fill with OEM-specified transmission oil to the correct level. Using the wrong oil type in a modern DCT or automatic transmission will cause rapid clutch pack failure.
- Road test to verify repair across the full operating temperature range. Some transmission faults only manifest when the oil has reached operating temperature.
