BLOC DE VALVES DE SUSPENSION PNEUMATIQUE
The Air Suspension Solenoid Valve Block (Tesla OEM 600640600A / 6006406-00-A) is the pneumatic distribution and control assembly at the heart of the air suspension system on the Tesla Model S (2012–2016), Tesla Model 3 (2017–2020, air suspension variants), and Tesla Model X (2016–2020). The same physical assembly is used across a range of VAG Group and Porsche air suspension platforms including the VW Touareg (7L), Audi Q7 (4L), and Porsche Cayenne (955/957/958), reflecting the shared RAPA-manufactured valve block design. The unit contains seven solenoid-controlled valves arranged in a single manifold body: one inlet valve for compressed air from the compressor, four corner valves directing air individually to each air spring, one exhaust valve to atmosphere, and one pressure reservoir valve. The Tesla Suspension Control Module sends electrical commands to each solenoid, opening or closing individual valves to raise or lower specific corners of the vehicle, maintain target ride height under changing loads, and deliver sport, comfort, or maximum clearance suspension modes.
The valve block is mounted in the front compartment of the Tesla Model S and X alongside the air suspension compressor. Compressed air from the compressor enters the valve block through the inlet port. Inside the manifold, seven solenoid valves controlled by the Suspension Control Module (SCM) open and close to route or block air flow. To raise a corner, the SCM opens the inlet solenoid and the solenoid for that corner’s air spring simultaneously — compressed air flows through the manifold into the air line to that spring, inflating it and raising the corner. To lower a corner, the SCM opens the exhaust solenoid and that corner’s solenoid — air from the spring vents through the exhaust port to atmosphere. The four individual corner solenoids allow the SCM to adjust each wheel independently, compensating for lateral load transfer in cornering and enabling the level correction that eliminates front and rear dive under braking and acceleration.
The valve block body is constructed from engineering-grade plastic with aluminium inserts at the VOSS push-fit air line fittings. The solenoids are sealed by internal O-rings that separate each valve chamber. Over time, the O-rings degrade through heat cycling and dry out from moisture contamination in the air system — a depleted desiccant filter allows atmospheric moisture through the compressor, accelerating O-ring deterioration. A failed O-ring allows air to bypass between chambers, producing a slow continuous leak that overworks the compressor and results in suspension height faults.

Air suspension solenoid valve blocks are classified under HS 8481.20 as valves for pneumatic transmission of power. Verify the exact 8- or 10-digit subheading with your customs broker. The cross-platform application (Tesla / VW Touareg / Audi Q7 / Porsche Cayenne) makes this a high-demand part for distributors serving multiple marques simultaneously.

Not all variants of the Touareg, Q7, and Cayenne are equipped with air suspension — confirm by checking the vehicle option code list or inspecting the suspension for air springs before ordering. On Tesla Model S and X, all vehicles with the Smart Air Suspension option use this valve block.
Difficulty: Moderate. The valve block is located in the front compartment of the Tesla Model S and X alongside the air compressor assembly. Access requires removing the front fascia (bumper cover) to reach the compressor and valve block bracket. A Tesla Toolbox or compatible diagnostic tool is required to deflate the system before removal and to refill and calibrate the suspension after installation. Estimated time: 1.5–2.5 hours including fascia removal and reinstallation. On VAG/Porsche platforms the procedure is similar but access differs by vehicle.
-
1Connect the diagnostic tool and run PROC_TAS_X_DEFLATE to fully depressurise the air suspension system. Confirm zero pressure in all four corners before proceeding. Disconnect 12V power as specified in the Tesla service procedure to prevent the SCM from attempting to re-inflate during the repair.
-
2Remove the front fascia assembly. On the Tesla Model S and X, the valve block and compressor are accessed from below and behind the front fascia. Follow the Tesla service procedure for fascia removal, which includes releasing the FRL (front rail liner) and LV battery connector at the fascia harness before pulling the fascia forward.
-
3Disconnect the electrical harness from the valve block connector — press the locking tab and pull the connector free. Release the collets on all seven air line push-fit fittings by pressing the collet release collar and pulling the line free. Cap all seven disconnected air lines immediately with blanking plugs to prevent moisture and contamination from entering the system. Discard all seven VOSS collets.
-
4Remove the two mounting bolts and withdraw the original valve block. Fit the new 600640600A valve block in position and install the two mounting bolts. Press the new VOSS fittings onto each port of the new valve block — remove the plastic alignment pins from each fitting before pressing the collets onto the ports.
-
5Reconnect all seven air lines using the colour-coding on the valve block label to match each line to its correct port. Press each line into its fitting until the alignment mark on the line reaches the top of the fitting. Perform a push-pull-push test on each line — push in to seat, pull to confirm lock, push again to confirm secure. Reconnect the electrical harness connector.
-
6Reconnect 12V power and run the suspension refill routine via the diagnostic tool. Inflate all four corners to normal ride height. Apply soapy water to all seven VOSS fittings to confirm no leaks under operating pressure. Refit the front fascia and perform a complete suspension calibration cycle (PROC_TAS_X_ENTER-NORMAL-MODE) before returning the vehicle to service.
| Part | Reference | Reason for Combined Replacement |
|---|---|---|
| Air Suspension Compressor | Tesla Model S/X air suspension compressor — confirm by platform and production year | The valve block and the compressor are co-located in the same front compartment assembly and are accessed during the same procedure. A valve block that has leaked for an extended period forces the compressor to run beyond its rated duty cycle, overheating the motor windings. If the compressor has been running abnormally frequently before the valve block fault was diagnosed, inspect the compressor motor for overheating signs and measure motor winding resistance. A compressor that has been heat-damaged will fail within weeks of a valve block replacement — replacing both during the same service access is significantly more cost-effective than two separate repair visits. |
| Air Suspension Desiccant Filter / Dryer | Air suspension compressor dryer cartridge — confirm by platform | The primary cause of valve block O-ring degradation is moisture entering the air circuit through a depleted desiccant filter. The desiccant filter is located in the air compressor assembly and absorbs moisture from atmospheric air before it enters the compression circuit. A depleted desiccant passes moisture into the compressed air, which condenses in the valve block and attacks the solenoid O-rings and metal components. Replacing the desiccant filter simultaneously with the valve block removes the moisture source and prevents early re-failure of the new valve block. The desiccant cartridge is low-cost and easily replaced with the compressor assembly already accessed for valve block removal. |
| VOSS Push-Fit Air Line Collet Set (x7) | VOSS collets — 4 mm and 6 mm sizes as required by valve block port layout | All seven VOSS push-fit collets at the valve block air line connections are single-use components that must be discarded when the air lines are released during valve block removal. Reusing a collet that has been released will not achieve a gas-tight seal under the 10–15 bar operating pressure of the air suspension circuit. A full set of seven new collets must be available before beginning the valve block replacement — supply a collet set with every valve block order to ensure the installer has all required components for a complete, leak-free repair without waiting for a separate parts delivery. |
