雨刮连杆(不带电机)
The Ford 1704580 (also 4M51-17K484-AD / -AC / -AB / -AA) is the Front Wiper Linkage Assembly — the mechanical transmission frame that converts the wiper motor's rotary output into oscillating sweep — for the Ford Focus II Mk2 (DA / DB, 2004–2011) Hatchback / Saloon / Estate (Turnier), and the Ford C-Max / Focus C-Max Mk1 (DM2, 2003–2010). Compatible with all engine variants: 1.4 / 1.6 / 1.8 / 2.0 Duratec HE petrol, 1.6 LPG, 1.6 / 1.8 / 2.0 Duratorq TDCi diesel. Supplied without wiper motor — existing motor is transferred from the old linkage.
The linkage is a four-bar mechanism converting the motor's rotation into reciprocating angular displacement of two pivot posts — one per arm. The motor crank arm drives a primary connecting rod distributing motion through ball-and-socket joints to the pivot post arms. Each pivot mounts in a sealed bushing on the frame; outer taper splines accept the wiper arms. Four-bar geometry produces correct swept area and synchronises driver / passenger arcs without blade collision.
On Focus Mk2 / C-Max Mk1, the linkage uses a tandem opposed sweep configuration — both arms park at the screen base and sweep upward in opposite arcs meeting near centre. The frame carries the park position cam — a ramp on the connecting rod triggering the motor's park switch. Mounts to the scuttle panel via 3 or 4 bolts to the body reinforcement.
Linkages fail through ball-and-socket joint wear (play in rod ends), pivot post bearing corrosion from water ingress through blocked scuttle drains (causing seizure that overloads the motor), connecting rod fatigue fracture from ice / snow operation, and frame corrosion. A seized pivot is most damaging — the locked pivot stalls the motor and destroys its armature winding.

Does NOT fit: Ford Focus Mk1 (1998–2005) — predecessor with different scuttle / linkage; Ford Focus Mk3 (2010+) — later platform with redesigned wiper system; Ford C-Max Mk2 / Grand C-Max (2010+) — later platform; Ford Mondeo Mk3 / Mk4 / Mk5 — different vehicle, different linkage (BS71-17K484 series); Ford Fiesta (any generation) — different vehicle class with different linkage; Ford Galaxy / S-Max — different platform; US-market Ford Focus (any year) — uses 5S4Z / 7S4Z / 8S4Z series references; Right-hand-drive UK / Ireland / Australia / Japan domestic Focus Mk2 — uses mirror-image linkage with different OEM suffix; Volvo C30 / S40 / V50 — despite shared C1 platform with Focus Mk2, Volvo uses Volvo-specific scuttle / wiper linkage. Always verify by reading the OEM number stamped on the existing linkage.
Difficulty: Moderate. Estimated time: 60–90 minutes including scuttle drain inspection. The wiper motor is not supplied with the linkage — the existing motor must be transferred from the old linkage frame to the new frame.
- 1Park the wipers in their normal park position by operating them and switching off. Mark each pivot post spline relative to its wiper arm with a paint pen. This reference allows the new linkage's splines to be indexed to the same positions, restoring the correct park and sweep without individual adjustment.
- 2Remove both wiper arms using a wiper arm puller. Unscrew the cap nut at the base of each arm, install the puller, and apply steady force to release the arm from the splined post. Note the painted spline marks for re-indexing.
- 3Remove the scuttle / cowl panel at the base of the windscreen. On Focus Mk2 / C-Max Mk1, the scuttle is held by plastic clips and a few screws — lift carefully to avoid breaking clips. Disconnect the windscreen washer hose if it crosses the scuttle.
- 4Disconnect the wiper motor electrical connector. Note the connector orientation. Remove the linkage frame mounting bolts from the scuttle panel reinforcement (typically 3 or 4 bolts). Lift the complete linkage + motor assembly out of the scuttle area.
- 5Transfer the wiper motor from old linkage to new frame. Remove motor mounting bolts (typically 3 small bolts). Note motor crank position vs linkage drive pin — crank angle determines sweep arc and park phase. Photograph original angle before removal.
- 6Confirm all new linkage ball-and-socket joints move freely through their full range. Flex each joint and confirm smooth, rattle-free motion without binding. Apply a small quantity of lithium grease to any joint that feels dry.
- 7Mount the wiper motor on the new linkage frame at the original crank-to-pin angle (referencing your photograph). Torque the motor bolts to OEM spec (typically 8–10 Nm). Reconnect the motor electrical connector.
- 8Confirm scuttle drain tubes are clear. Blocked drainage is primary cause of pivot corrosion on Focus Mk2 / C-Max Mk1. Use flexible probe to clear debris. Drains exit at the front wheel arch.
- 9Install the new linkage assembly onto the scuttle panel, aligning the mounting holes with the body reinforcement bolts. Torque the frame mounting bolts to OEM spec (typically 8–15 Nm into the scuttle reinforcement). The frame must be fully seated for correct pivot post geometry.
- 10Refit the wiper arms to the indexed positions on the new pivot post splines, matching the original paint marks. The arm spline taper engages the post taper — press the arm down firmly and torque the cap nut to OEM spec (typically 12–18 Nm).
- 11Refit scuttle cover, reconnect washer hose if disturbed. Activate wipers at all speeds: blades sweep to correct arcs without pillar contact; park at screen base; quiet operation. Adjust arm spline indexing if park position incorrect.
| Part | Reference | Reason for Combined Replacement |
|---|---|---|
| Wiper Motor | Ford / Bosch wiper motor for Focus Mk2 / C-Max Mk1 | Replace simultaneously only when motor confirmed failed by direct 12 V testing. Particularly important if linkage failure was caused by seized pivot — motor running against stalled load may have damaged armature. Test under direct power, measure current draw — above-rated = replace. |
| Wiper Arms (Driver / Passenger) | Ford / aftermarket arm-specific reference for Focus Mk2 / C-Max Mk1 | Linkage replacement requires removing the wiper arms. Arms running alongside a failing linkage may have developed splined-bore play from irregular motion. Inspect spline fit and spring force — worn = replace simultaneously for correct sweep coverage. |
| Wiper Blades | Ford / Bosch / Valeo / Champion blades, OEM length per Focus Mk2 / C-Max Mk1 | Replace simultaneously. Arm removal provides mandatory opportunity for new blades. Worn ball joints produce irregular sweep accelerating blade edge wear. New blades + new linkage = complete wiper system restored. |
| Scuttle Drain Clearing / Drain Tubes | Service action only, sometimes requires new drain grommets | Critical — underlying cause of Focus Mk2 / C-Max Mk1 linkage failure. Blocked drains allow water pooling around linkage, causing pivot corrosion. Clear all drain tubes during linkage service. Failure to address blocked drainage = identical failure in new linkage within 2–3 years. |
| Scuttle Cover Clips and Trim | Ford clip / fastener kit for Focus Mk2 / C-Max Mk1 scuttle | The plastic scuttle clips often break during removal on 10+ year-old vehicles (aged / brittle). Order a clip kit to refit correctly. Inexpensive but commonly overlooked — poorly retained scuttle = water / debris ingress = repeat pivot corrosion. |
