Automechanika Shanghai 2026: A Buyer's Guide to the World's Largest Auto Parts Show

Automechanika Shanghai 2026 runs from 2 to 5 December at the National Exhibition and Convention Center. With about 7,600 exhibitors expected, it is the largest gathering of auto parts suppliers in the world - and far too big to visit without a plan. This guide is the plan.

For an importer, four days in Shanghai can replace months of online searching. You can hold a part in your hand, compare ten manufacturers of the same product in one aisle, and meet the people who will answer your emails for the next five years. You can also walk 20 kilometers a day, collect 200 business cards and go home with nothing usable. The difference is preparation.

What follows is written for trade buyers: what the show is, how it is laid out, how to prepare, what to ask, and - most importantly - what to do afterwards, because a trade fair shows you who exists, not who is reliable.

The previous edition, in 2025, set records: 7,465 exhibitors from 44 countries and regions, and 253,691 visitors from 190 countries and regions - 14% more than the year before. About 28% of visitors came from outside mainland China. The 2026 edition is planned to be larger again, with a program of nearly 100 conferences and events built around new energy, connectivity and sustainability.

The practical meaning of those numbers: you cannot see everything. A visitor who spends five minutes at each stand would need more than 70 working days.

2. How the Show Is Organized

The exhibition is divided into ten product sectors, each occupying its own halls:

SectorWhat you will find
Parts and componentsThe largest sector: engine, chassis, brake, suspension, cooling and body parts. Most aftermarket buyers spend the majority of their time here.
Electrics and electronicsSensors, ignition, lighting, wiring, control units, batteries.
Accessories, wheels and customizingInterior and exterior accessories, alloy wheels, styling.
Diagnostics and repairWorkshop equipment, lifts, diagnostic tools.
Oils, lubricants and fuelsEngine oils, transmission fluids, additives, greases.
Body and paintRefinish materials, panel repair, paint booths.
Car wash, care and detailingCleaning equipment and chemicals.
Wheels management and tire serviceTires, tire-changing and balancing equipment.
Digital solutions and servicesSoftware, catalogs, e-commerce and fleet tools.
Connectivity and autonomous drivingElectronics and software for new-energy and connected vehicles.

Within the parts halls, exhibitors from the same region are often grouped in provincial pavilions - Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shandong - and there are national pavilions for overseas exhibitors. Because Chinese manufacturing is clustered by product, the pavilions are a shortcut: the Ruian companies with sensors and ignition parts stand together, as do the Danyang lamp makers. The background is in Where Auto Parts Are Made in China.

3. Before You Go: Six Weeks of Preparation

Register and book early. Pre-register on the official website; it saves a long queue on the first morning. Hotels near the venue and around Hongqiao fill up weeks ahead and prices rise sharply for show week.

Check entry requirements. China has extended visa-free entry to citizens of many countries in recent years, but the rules differ by passport and change. Confirm the current position for your nationality well in advance.

Decide what you are looking for. Write a list of product families and, for each, the five to ten OEM numbers that sell best for you. Suppliers can quote on a number; they cannot quote on "suspension parts".

Benchmark prices beforehand. If you know what your current numbers cost from several suppliers, you can judge a quotation at the stand in seconds. Searching your key OEM numbers on ok.parts before you travel gives you that reference.

Shortlist exhibitors. The exhibitor list and hall plan are published before the show. Mark 30 to 40 companies you must see, group them by hall, and book meetings with the most important ones by email.

Prepare your tools. Business cards in quantity, a phone with plenty of storage, a translation app, a mobile payment app that accepts your foreign card, and a way to stay connected - a roaming plan or a local SIM. Bring samples or photos of the parts you want matched.

4. A Four-Day Plan

DayFocusWhy
Day 1Booked meetings with your shortlisted suppliersPeople are fresh, decision-makers are at the stand, and samples are still on display.
Day 2The rest of the shortlist, hall by hallWork systematically; do not zigzag across a venue this size.
Day 3Discovery: walk the halls for your main product familiesThis is where you find the suppliers you did not know existed.
Day 4Second meetings and open questionsThe show closes at 15:00 and exhibitors start packing early. Use the morning to revisit your best two or three.

The venue is laid out as a four-leaf clover, and moving between opposite halls takes longer than you expect. Finish one hall before you move to the next. Wear the most comfortable shoes you own.

5. What to Ask at the Stand

You have ten minutes per stand. These questions separate real candidates from the rest:

QuestionWhat the answer tells you
Are you the manufacturer of this product? Where is the factory?Whether you are talking to a factory or a trader, and whether the location matches the product's cluster.
Which of these items do you make yourselves, and which do you buy in?The honest ones answer directly. Almost every exhibitor shows some bought-in items.
What is your MOQ per part number? And for a mixed order?Whether your order size fits their business.
Which OEM numbers do you cover for these vehicles?Whether they work by cross-reference or by guesswork. Ask for the catalog as a file.
Which certificates do you hold, and in whose name?IATF 16949, ISO 9001 and product approvals such as ECE R90 - and whether they belong to this company.
Which countries do you export to? Do you have customers in my market?Export experience, and potential conflicts with existing distributors.
What is the lead time for a first order, and for repeat orders?Whether they hold stock or produce to order.
Can I have this sample, or buy samples after the show?Willingness to be tested.

After each conversation, photograph the stand sign, the business card and the products you discussed in a single sequence, and dictate or type three lines of notes before you walk on. By the evening of day two, unlabeled cards are worthless.

Do not order at the stand. Show prices are opening positions, and you have verified nothing yet. Collect quotations, take samples, and decide at home.

6. After the Show: Turning Contacts into Suppliers

Follow up within a week. Send each shortlisted supplier the same list of OEM numbers and quantities, and ask for a quotation with the Incoterm and named place stated. Identical requests make the answers comparable. On delivery terms, see Incoterms for Auto Parts Importers.

Verify before you pay. A stand at a trade fair proves that a company paid for a stand. Check the business license, the business scope, the address and the bank account name - the full checklist is in Factory or Trading Company? How to Verify a Chinese Auto Parts Supplier.

Test samples properly. Compare them with original parts on dimensions, weight, markings and connectors, and fit them on a vehicle where you can.

Start small. A trial order with a pre-shipment inspection tells you more than any meeting. Our quality control guide describes what to inspect.

Cross-check on ok.parts. Search the OEM numbers you were quoted and compare the offers: price, MOQ, lead time and - above all - the supplier's E-to-A rank, which reflects real order history rather than the size of a stand.

7. Combine the Show with Factory Visits

The best use of a trip to Shanghai is to add two or three days of factory visits before or after the show. Several of China's main parts clusters are within easy reach by high-speed train from Shanghai Hongqiao station, which is next to the exhibition center:

DestinationWhat is thereTravel from Shanghai Hongqiao
Danyang and Changzhou (Jiangsu)Headlamps, tail lamps, bumpers, body partsAbout one hour
Ningbo (Zhejiang)Die castings, anti-vibration parts, electronicsAbout two hours
Yiwu (Zhejiang)Trading, consolidation; the ok.parts sourcing and inspection baseAbout one and a half to two hours
Taizhou and Yuhuan (Zhejiang)Chassis and steering parts, molds, plasticsAbout three hours
Ruian and Wenzhou (Zhejiang)Sensors, ignition and electrical partsAbout three to four hours

Visit after the show rather than before if you can: you will have met the companies, and factory managers are back at their desks. Avoid the two or three days immediately after closing, when everyone is unpacking.

8. Getting There and Getting Around

The venue is in the west of Shanghai, next to the Hongqiao transport hub. Shanghai Hongqiao airport and Hongqiao railway station are a few minutes away; Pudong international airport is on the other side of the city, about an hour by car or more by metro.

Metro. Line 2 runs directly to the exhibition center, and Line 17 stops on its western side. On show days the metro is faster than a taxi in the morning and evening peaks.

Payments. China runs on mobile payment. The main payment apps now accept foreign bank cards; set one up before you travel. Carry some cash as a backup.

Language. Export sales staff at the stands speak English; many also speak Russian, Spanish or Arabic. Outside the halls, a translation app on your phone is essential.

Internet. Many foreign websites and messaging services do not work on local networks. International roaming on your home SIM usually does.

9. Frequently Asked Questions

When is Automechanika Shanghai 2026?

From 2 to 5 December 2026 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. Opening hours are 9:00 to 18:00, and until 15:00 on the last day.

How big is Automechanika Shanghai?

The 2026 edition is planned at about 390,000 square meters in 16 halls with around 7,600 exhibitors. The 2025 edition had 7,465 exhibitors and 253,691 visitors from 190 countries and regions.

How many days do I need at Automechanika Shanghai?

Plan for all four days if you are sourcing across several product families. Two days of booked meetings, one day of discovery and a final morning for second meetings is a realistic schedule.

Is Automechanika Shanghai worth visiting for a small importer?

Yes, if you prepare. It is the fastest way to compare many manufacturers of the same product and to meet suppliers in person. Go with a list of OEM numbers, a shortlist of exhibitors and price benchmarks.

Should I place orders at the show?

No. Collect quotations and samples, then verify the companies and compare offers at home. A trade fair shows who exists, not who is reliable.

How do I get to the exhibition center?

The National Exhibition and Convention Center is next to Shanghai Hongqiao airport and railway station. Metro Line 2 runs directly to it and Line 17 stops on its western side.

Can I visit factories during the trip?

Yes. Danyang, Changzhou, Ningbo, Yiwu, Taizhou and Ruian are all between one and four hours from Shanghai Hongqiao by high-speed train, and together they cover lighting, body parts, chassis parts, sensors and electrical components.
