Where Auto Parts Are Made in China: A Guide to the Manufacturing Clusters
"Made in China" is not one place. Sensors come from one city, suspension arms from another, headlamps from a third. Knowing which cluster makes what is the fastest way to find real manufacturers - and to tell when a supplier is not one.
Chinese industry is organized in clusters: towns and counties where hundreds of factories make the same family of products, surrounded by the foundries, mold shops, platers and packaging suppliers they need. The pattern is especially strong in auto parts. A buyer who knows the map can shortlist suppliers in an afternoon; one who does not can spend months talking to intermediaries.
This guide covers the main clusters for aftermarket parts, grouped by region, followed by a product-by-product lookup table. It is written from Yiwu, in the middle of the largest of them.

1. Why Clusters Matter to a Buyer
They tell you where to look. If you need brake discs, there is little point in starting your search in Guangdong. If you need Japanese-car body parts, there is little point in starting in Shandong.
They tell you who you are talking to. A "factory" for wheel speed sensors with an address in a city that has no sensor industry is far more likely to be a trading company. That is not necessarily a problem - traders have their uses - but you should know. More on this in Factory or Trading Company? How to Verify a Chinese Auto Parts Supplier.
They make visits efficient. In a cluster town you can see six factories for the same product in two days, compare them directly, and meet their sub-suppliers.
They explain the prices. Inside a cluster, raw materials, tooling and skilled labor are shared, so prices converge. A quotation far below the cluster level usually means a difference in material or process, not a better deal.
2. Zhejiang: The Aftermarket Heartland
Zhejiang province, south of Shanghai, has the densest concentration of independent aftermarket parts manufacturers in the country. Most are private, export-oriented and experienced with foreign buyers.
| City | Known for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ruian (Wenzhou) | Electrical and electronic parts: sensors, ignition coils, switches, fuel pumps, relays; also filters and commercial-vehicle air brake parts | Officially titled China's capital of auto and motorcycle parts. The first place to look for engine-management and electrical items. |
| Yuhuan (Taizhou) | Chassis parts: ball joints, tie rods, control arms, brake components, hydraulic parts, valves | Dense network of forging and machining shops. Strong in steering and suspension. |
| Taizhou (Huangyan, Luqiao) | Molds, plastic parts, body and trim parts | Huangyan is a national center for plastic injection molds; Geely started here. |
| Ningbo | Die castings, anti-vibration parts, interiors, electronics | Home to several large export-oriented suppliers that also serve vehicle manufacturers directly. |
| Hangzhou and Shaoxing | Driveline components, bearings, aluminum wheels | Large established groups rather than small workshops. |
| Yiwu and Jinhua | Accessories, small parts, trading and consolidation | The world's largest wholesale market city. Less manufacturing, but the logistics hub where mixed orders are consolidated and shipped - including by rail to Europe. |
For a typical importer's basket - sensors, coils, suspension joints, small electrical items - a large part of the supply base is within a few hours' drive of each other in this one province. The ok.parts sourcing and inspection operation is based in Yiwu for exactly that reason.
3. Jiangsu and Shanghai: Lighting, Body Parts and Tier-1 Suppliers
| City | Known for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Danyang (Zhenjiang) | Headlamps, tail lamps, bumpers, grilles, mirrors and other body parts | The main cluster for aftermarket lighting and collision parts. If you sell crash parts, this is the address. |
| Changzhou | Automotive lighting, including styling and upgrade lamps | Home to one of China's largest original-equipment lamp makers and a district specializing in custom lighting. |
| Suzhou, Wuxi, Kunshan | Electronics, precision parts, braking and steering systems | Many factories of international suppliers; mostly original-equipment business. |
| Shanghai | Headquarters, engineering centers and joint-venture suppliers | Few aftermarket factories, but the commercial center - and the venue of Automechanika Shanghai every year. |
The Shanghai-Jiangsu corridor is where the international Tier-1 suppliers are concentrated. For aftermarket buyers its importance is indirect: it sets the quality benchmark, and many independent factories nearby are staffed by people trained there. If you plan to visit, the trade fair is the efficient way to meet the whole region at once - see Automechanika Shanghai 2026: A Buyer's Guide.
4. Guangdong: The Trading Hub of the South
| City | Known for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Guangzhou | Wholesale markets for parts of every kind; strong in parts for Japanese brands | Several large auto parts market districts with thousands of stalls. Japanese vehicle manufacturers have plants here, so the local supply chain for those brands is deep. |
| Foshan and Zhongshan | Lighting, accessories, aluminum and plastic parts | Manufacturing towns west and south of Guangzhou. |
| Shenzhen and Dongguan | Automotive electronics, diagnostic tools, batteries, cameras and multimedia | The electronics capital. Relevant for anything with a circuit board. |
Guangzhou is where many African, Middle Eastern and Latin American buyers start, because the markets allow small mixed purchases and the traders are used to walk-in customers. The trade-off is that you are usually buying from a wholesaler, not from the producer.
5. Shandong and Hebei: Brakes, Bearings, Filters, Wheels and Tires
The northern provinces specialize in heavier, material-intensive products, built on local foundries and steel.
| City | Known for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Laizhou and Longkou (Yantai, Shandong) | Brake discs and drums | The main brake disc casting cluster, supplying the aftermarket worldwide. |
| Leling and Dezhou (Shandong) | Brake pads and friction materials | Several of the large export-oriented pad manufacturers are here. |
| Linqing (Liaocheng, Shandong) | Bearings | A bearing town with a very large wholesale market; the full range from economy to mid-grade. |
| Dongying and Guangrao (Shandong) | Tires | One of the world's biggest tire-manufacturing concentrations. |
| Qinghe (Xingtai, Hebei) | Filters, rubber sealing strips, control cables | A county-level cluster focused on a few product families in very high volume. |
| Qinhuangdao (Hebei) | Aluminum wheels | Home to one of the world's largest alloy wheel manufacturers. |
For bearings, two further names matter beyond Linqing: Wafangdian in Liaoning and Luoyang in Henan are the historic centers of China's bearing industry, with larger state-founded manufacturers. 6. Carmaker Cities: Where Genuine Parts Come From
A different kind of cluster forms around each vehicle manufacturer. The suppliers there make original-equipment parts for one brand, and the local parts markets are the best source of genuine and OEM-supplier parts for that brand's vehicles.
| City | Vehicle manufacturer | Look here for |
|---|---|---|
| Wuhu (Anhui) | Chery | Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo, Exeed and Jetour parts |
| Baoding (Hebei) | Great Wall Motor | Haval, Tank and GWM pickup parts |
| Hangzhou, Ningbo, Taizhou (Zhejiang) | Geely | Geely, Lynk & Co and Zeekr parts |
| Chongqing | Changan | Changan parts; also motorcycle parts |
| Hefei (Anhui) | JAC | JAC car and light truck parts |
| Shiyan and Wuhan (Hubei) | Dongfeng | Dongfeng truck and car parts |
| Jinan (Shandong) | Sinotruk | Howo and Sitrak heavy truck parts |
| Xi'an (Shaanxi) | Shaanxi Automobile | Shacman heavy truck parts |
| Changchun (Jilin) | FAW | FAW truck parts, Hongqi and Bestune |
| Shenzhen and Xi'an | BYD | BYD parts |
These cities matter more every year. Parts for Chinese vehicle brands made up 37.6% of the purchase requests in our analysis of 6,000 requests, and the fastest route to those parts is usually through the manufacturer's home region. Number formats and brand families are explained in Parts for Chinese Car Brands.
7. Quick Lookup: Which Product, Which Cluster
| Product family | Start your search in |
|---|---|
| Sensors, ignition coils, switches, relays | Ruian (Zhejiang) |
| Fuel pumps and injection parts | Ruian (Zhejiang) |
| Ball joints, tie rods, control arms | Yuhuan (Zhejiang) |
| Brake discs and drums | Laizhou and Longkou (Shandong) |
| Brake pads | Leling and Dezhou (Shandong); also Hebei and Zhejiang |
| Wheel bearings and hub units | Linqing (Shandong); Zhejiang for hub units |
| Headlamps, tail lamps, bumpers, grilles | Danyang (Jiangsu) |
| Filters | Qinghe (Hebei); Ruian (Zhejiang) |
| Rubber seals, cables | Qinghe (Hebei) |
| Plastic parts and molds | Taizhou Huangyan (Zhejiang) |
| Aluminum wheels | Qinhuangdao (Hebei); Shaoxing and Jinhua (Zhejiang) |
| Tires | Dongying and Qingdao (Shandong) |
| Automotive electronics and diagnostic tools | Shenzhen and Dongguan (Guangdong) |
| Parts for Japanese brands, mixed small orders | Guangzhou (Guangdong) |
Treat the table as a starting point, not a boundary. Good factories exist outside the main clusters, and every cluster contains weak ones. The location raises or lowers the probability; verification settles it.
8. How to Use This When Sourcing
Check the address first. When a supplier describes itself as a manufacturer, compare its registered address with the cluster for its main product. A match is a good sign; a mismatch is a question to ask.
Do not expect one factory to make everything. A real factory in Ruian makes sensors, not brake discs. A supplier offering both, plus headlamps and bearings, is consolidating from several clusters - which is a legitimate service, but a different one, with a different price structure.
Plan visits by cluster. Yiwu, Ruian, Yuhuan, Taizhou and Ningbo can be combined in one trip. Danyang and Changzhou fit naturally with Shanghai. Shandong needs its own journey.
Use consolidation. Most importers' orders span several clusters. Rather than receiving six small shipments, have the goods delivered to one warehouse, inspected and shipped together. Transport options are covered in Shipping Auto Parts from China, and inspection in our quality control guide.
Search by part number, then look at the map. On ok.parts you search by OEM number and see offers from suppliers across China and more than 80 other countries, each with its supplier type, location and E-to-A rank. The supplier map shows where they are, so you can see at a glance whether an offer comes from the cluster you would expect.
