Parts for Chinese Car Brands: OEM Number Formats and Sourcing Guide

A practical guide for importers, parts stores and workshops that now have Chery, Geely, Haval, Changan, JAC and other Chinese cars on their lifts - how the part numbers work, which brands share parts, what buyers actually ask for, and how to source it without ordering the wrong item.

China exported about 4.9 million vehicles in 2023, 5.86 million in 2024 and 7.1 million in 2025, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Chery alone shipped more than 1.1 million vehicles abroad in 2024, followed by SAIC (MG), Changan, Geely, Great Wall and BYD. Every one of those cars needs brake discs, control arms, filters and bumper parts a few years later - and in most export markets the parts supply has not caught up with the fleet.

That gap shows up in our own data. In a sample of 6,032 open purchase requests on ok.parts taken in October 2026 - a quarter of all open requests at the time - 37.6% were for a Chinese vehicle brand. The demand is real, the catalogs are thin, and the part numbers look nothing like the European and Japanese numbers most buyers are used to. This guide is written to close that gap.

1. Why Chinese-Brand Parts Are the Fastest-Growing Niche

The numbers behind the trend are simple. Chinese vehicle exports have grown by roughly a million units a year for three years in a row:

YearVehicles exported from ChinaChange
20234.91 million-
20245.86 million+19.3%
20257.10 million+21.1%

The export leaders in 2024 were Chery (1.14 million vehicles), SAIC with its MG brand (0.93 million), Changan (0.54 million), Geely (0.53 million), Great Wall (0.45 million) and BYD (0.43 million).

For the parts trade the timing matters more than the totals. A car typically reaches its first serious repair cycle three to five years after it is sold: brake discs, suspension arms, wheel bearings, the first collision repairs. The large export volumes of 2022-2023 are entering that window now, and the far larger volumes of 2024-2025 will follow. In many markets the official dealer network is still young, parts stock is shallow, and independent importers are the ones who fill the shelf.

The segment also behaves differently from the mature European and Japanese aftermarket. There are fewer cross-reference catalogs, fewer established aftermarket brands, and far more model variants per brand. That is a barrier for casual sellers - and a margin opportunity for anyone who learns to read the numbers.

2. What Buyers Are Actually Asking For

ok.parts publishes its open purchase requests - parts our sourcing team is buying for customers - on a public requests page. In October 2026 we sampled every fourth page of that list, 6,032 requests in total, and counted them by vehicle brand. Chinese brands accounted for 2,269 of them, or 37.6%:

Zeekr29Electric cars

This is a sample of one platform's requests, not a market study, but two patterns are clear. First, demand is not limited to the three or four best-known names - JAC, Li Auto, Voyah and Zeekr all appear, and trucks make up almost half of the Chinese-brand requests. Second, for passenger and light commercial brands the part types are dominated by collision and chassis items rather than routine service parts: the most requested were bumper brackets, brake discs, drive shafts, fuel filters, suspension arms, stabilizer links, inner tie rods, wheel bearings and hubs.

What this means for stock planning: filters and brake pads for Chinese cars are already covered by many aftermarket brands. The harder-to-find items - bumper mounting brackets, suspension arms, hubs, drive shafts, headlamps - are where buyers are actively searching and where a correct OEM number is the only reliable way to match a part.

The full breakdown of the sample, across all brands, is in What the World Is Buying: 6,000 Auto Parts Requests Analyzed.

3. Brand Families: Who Shares Parts with Whom

Chinese automakers sell under many brand names, but the parts systems are organized by group. Knowing the parent group tells you which catalog, which number format and often which platform you are dealing with.

GroupBrandsWhat to know
CheryChery, Omoda, Jaecoo, Exeed, JetourOne number system and a shared family of engines across the brands. Export models are often renamed by market.
GeelyGeely, Lynk & Co, ZeekrGeely Holding also controls Volvo Cars and holds a stake in Proton, so some platforms and models are shared across those brands.
Great Wall MotorHaval, Tank, Ora, Wey, GWM pickupsAll sub-brands use the same 13-character number format. On ok.parts they are listed under Great Wall.
ChanganChangan, Deepal, Uni seriesThe longest part numbers in the industry - 15 to 17 characters.
SAICMG, Roewe, Maxus (LDV)The largest exporter after Chery; MG models are sold worldwide under one name.
JACJAC cars, pickups and light trucksStrong in Latin America, the Middle East and Central Asia; high request volume for steering and chassis parts.
FAW, Dongfeng, GACHongqi, Bestune, Forthing, Voyah, Trumpchi, AionState-owned groups with growing export programs.
New energy makersBYD, Li Auto, NIO, XpengElectric and range-extender vehicles. Chassis and body parts are sourced like any other car; high-voltage parts need extra care.

Two practical consequences. A part for an Omoda or Jaecoo is searched as a Chery number. A part for a Haval, Tank or GWM pickup is searched as a Great Wall number. If a supplier quotes a brand name you do not recognize, ask for the parent group and the OEM number - the number is what matters.

4. How Chinese OEM Part Numbers Work

Chinese part numbers look random until you know the rule behind them. Most Chinese manufacturers build their numbers on a national industry standard for automotive part numbering (QC/T 265). A number built this way contains a four-digit group code that says what kind of part it is, a three-digit part code, a model or engine code, and a revision suffix. The order differs from brand to brand, but the building blocks are the same.

BrandTypical formatExampleHow to read it
Great Wall / Haval / Tank13 characters: 7 digits + model code + revision letter2803402XKN08A2803 = bumper group, 402 = the part (a bumper bracket), XKN08 = model code, A = revision.
JACAround 12 characters: 7 digits + model code1109100E89821109 = air cleaner group, 100 = the part (filter element), E8982 = model code.
Chery9 digits + 2 letters, or a prefix + 7 digits602001561AA, F4J161306110New-style numbers are sequential with a two-letter revision (AA, AB, AC). Older numbers start with an engine or platform prefix: F4J16 is an engine family and 1306 is the thermostat group.
Li Auto11 characters: model prefix + 8 digitsX0331030011X03 = model prefix, 3103 = wheel hub group, 0011 = the part.
Geely10 digits4048087000Purely numeric, no visible group code. Always search the complete number.
Changan15 to 17 charactersB511F2105010200Model code first, then the part code. Copy and paste these - never retype them.

The group codes are worth memorizing, because they let you sanity-check a number before you order. If a supplier offers you a "brake disc" and the number contains 2803, something is wrong. The codes below are the ones you will meet most often; each example links to live offers.

Left and right parts usually differ by one digit in the part code. The front bumper brackets 602001560AA and 602001561AA are a pair, and so are the headlamps 4121102XST01A and 4121103XST01A. Never assume which one is left - confirm the side with the supplier.

Mitsubishi-derived numbers on Great Wall. Older Great Wall and Haval models used Mitsubishi-designed petrol engines built under license in China. Engine parts for them carry numbers such as SMW250510 (an ignition coil): an S prefix in front of a Mitsubishi-style number. These parts often interchange with the Mitsubishi original, which widens your supplier choice.

6. Genuine, OEM-Supplier or Aftermarket: What You Are Really Buying

For a Chinese-brand part there are usually three supply tiers, and the price difference between them is large enough that you need to know which one you are being quoted.

Genuine parts come in the automaker's own packaging - a branded box or bag with a label showing the OEM number, a barcode and often a QR code or security sticker. They are sold through authorized parts distributors in China and are the safest choice for electronics, safety parts and anything where fitment tolerance is tight.

OEM-supplier parts are made by the company that supplies the assembly line and sold under the supplier's own brand. Chinese cars are full of them: engine management from Bosch and its Chinese joint venture UAES, glass from Fuyao, chassis and anti-vibration parts from Tuopu, driveline parts from Wanxiang, thermal components from Sanhua. Quality is equal to genuine; the price is usually lower.

Aftermarket parts are made by independent factories, mostly in the Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu and Hebei manufacturing clusters. Quality ranges from excellent to unusable, which is why the supplier matters more than the price. For background on the terminology, see OEM vs OES vs aftermarket vs genuine parts.

When you compare offers for the same OEM number on ok.parts, the manufacturer column tells you which tier you are looking at, and the supplier's E-to-A rank tells you how much real order history stands behind the offer. Always ask the supplier for photos of the actual part and its packaging label before paying - a genuine label that matches the number you searched is the fastest authenticity check there is.

7. Six Mistakes That Lead to Wrong Parts

1. Ordering by model name. Chinese automakers rename models by market and refresh them often. Two cars with the same badge can be different generations with different parts, and locally assembled versions sometimes differ from the Chinese-built ones. A model name is a starting point; the OEM number is the order.

2. Dropping the suffix. The last letters are part of the number. 602001561AA and 602001561AB can be different revisions, and a Great Wall number ending in A may not be interchangeable with the same number ending in B. Send the supplier the complete number.

3. Retyping long numbers. A 16-character Changan number leaves plenty of room to swap a 0 for an O or drop a digit. Copy and paste from the source, then compare character by character.

4. Skipping the VIN. Every Chinese-built car has a VIN starting with L. The first three characters identify the manufacturer - LVV for Chery, LGW for Great Wall, LB3 and L6T for Geely, LS5 for Changan, LJ1 for JAC, LSJ for SAIC (MG), LGX and LC0 for BYD. With the full VIN a dealer or an electronic parts catalog can give you the exact OEM number for that car, which removes most guesswork.

5. Assuming left and right. Paired parts are numbered one digit apart, but the brand decides which is which. Confirm the side in writing.

6. Choosing by price alone. For a new segment with few established brands, the cheapest offer is often a different quality tier, not a better deal. Compare the manufacturer, the supplier's track record and the packaging before the price. Our quality control guide explains what to check on arrival.

8. How to Source Chinese-Brand Parts on ok.parts

ok.parts is built around the part number, which suits this segment well. There is no catalog to browse - you type an OEM number into the search bar and see every supplier offer for that exact number.

Search. Enter the number without spaces or dashes. Results show each offer with unit price, MOQ, stock and lead time, plus the supplier's type, country and trust rank from E to A. The rank is built from real order history, so an A or B supplier has been bought from repeatedly.

Compare. For popular numbers you will see dozens of offers - the Li Auto suspension arm X0129140019 had more than 170 at the time of writing. Filter by manufacturer to separate genuine parts from aftermarket alternatives.

Contact. Revealing a supplier's contacts costs from $5 to $25 depending on rank, and a new account starts with a $20 welcome credit. After that you deal with the supplier directly.

Or hand it over. If you would rather not manage several suppliers, send your parts list to b2b@ok.parts and our sourcing team in Yiwu will handle purchasing, inspection, consolidation and delivery.

Suppliers of Chinese-brand parts can list their stock for free and quote directly on the open purchase requests.

9. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find the OEM number for a Chinese car part?

Look for the number on the part itself or on its packaging label first. If it is missing or unreadable, use the car's 17-character VIN: a dealer or an electronic parts catalog can return the exact OEM number for that vehicle. Our guide on how to find and read an OEM part number covers the process step by step.

Are parts for Haval, Tank and Great Wall the same?

They share one part numbering system and many components, because all three are Great Wall Motor brands. A part is interchangeable only when the OEM number is identical, so always compare the full 13-character number including the last letter.

Can I use Chery parts on Omoda, Jaecoo or Exeed?

Omoda, Jaecoo, Exeed and Jetour belong to the Chery group and use Chery part numbers. Many engine and chassis parts are shared between models built on the same platform, but body and trim parts are model-specific. Match by OEM number, not by brand.

What do the letters at the end of a Chinese part number mean?

They are a revision or variant code. Chery uses two letters such as AA, AB or AC; Great Wall uses a single letter after the model code. A later revision usually replaces an earlier one, but not always in both directions, so order the exact suffix shown in the catalog for your VIN.

Are aftermarket parts for Chinese cars reliable?

Some are excellent and some are not. The aftermarket for Chinese brands is younger than for European or Japanese cars, so there are fewer established names to rely on. Check who the manufacturer is, how much order history the supplier has, and ask for photos of the part and label before you buy.

Which Chinese-brand parts are most in demand?

In a sample of 6,032 open purchase requests on ok.parts in October 2026, the most requested part types for Chinese passenger and light commercial brands were bumper brackets, brake discs, drive shafts, fuel filters, suspension arms, stabilizer links, inner tie rods, wheel bearings and hubs.

Does ok.parts sell parts for Chinese trucks as well?

Yes. Suppliers list parts for Shaanxi (Shacman), Sitrak, Howo, Foton, FAW and JAC trucks alongside passenger car parts, and truck brands made up almost half of the Chinese-brand requests in our sample. Search works the same way - by OEM number.
